Nomadic - The last White Star Line Ship
These pictures were taken in Paris on Saturday August 30th 1997, the day before Princess Diana died. The Nomadic was saved from being scrapped in January 2006 when it was bought at auction for 250,000 Euros by the Department of Social Development, for restoration in Belfast. She was moved to Belfast in July 2006.
In February 2007 Nomadic was moved from Harland & Wolff to a new berth at Barnett Dock to begin restoration. The original engines were scrapped, but the trust intends to restore the ship as closely as possible to original condition, including finding some engines. See the Belfast Telegraph, Friday, December 22, 2006 and Belfast Telegraph, Saturday, December 23, 2006 for more details.
The photographs above, of Nomadic in Belfast, are all show by kind permission of Mr. Paul Fryer, and he retains the copyright. Back to Memorials Page © 1997-2007 Phil Ottewell First published 28-Oct-1997 |
